History

Our lovely house was built in 1633 by our ancestors Drini Hugler (today Huggler) and Heini Thendler (today Tännler).

The inscription:

THIS HOUSE STANDS ON GOOD GROUND
GOD GIVE THE INHABITANTS GOOD LUCK AND HEALTH
SO THAT THEIR LIVES ON EARTH AND THEREAFTER BE BLESSED

While the house’s date of construction is very impressive, even more so is the fact that, during construction of a cool room in 1964, old walls were found. The archaeologist from Bern confirmed that the walls were once part of a Roman building – probably a hermitage. Remants of vases and many other objects were found and the archaeologists also discovered ducts for heating and roman baths.

Our Grandfather, Alexander Tännler, made a name for himself as he, together with climbing colleagues Kaspar Maurer, Heinrich Zurflüh and their guest Hugo Mylius were successful in the first winter ascent of the Mt. Blanc on Febrary 25th, 1904. Alexanders guest’s often stayed in this house which led to it becoming the guesthouse it is today.
